KANETTI’S MEMOIRS JF - Anglistics and Americanistics JA - EAS VL - 1 IS - 18 SE - RELEVANT ISSUES OF LITERARY STUDIES AND STYLISTICS DO - https://doi.org/10.15421/382118 UR - https://anglistika.dp.ua/index.php/AA/article/view/284 AB - The article investigates the concept of self-reflection relevant to the modern paradigm of art on the pages of the autobiographical trilogy written by the Austrian Nobel laureate Elias Canetti. The mnemonic plane is considered to be defined by numerous parallels to modern discursive practices around the culturological question of self-identification of "I" in modern society and in the stream of literary scientific interpretations of the autobiographical "I" in memoirs tradition of the past and nowadays. The spiritual history of Canetti's autobiographical hero's self-awareness is traced in the context of modern poetic categories, which illustrate the phenomenon of Canetti's spiritual microworld, built by the author as a spiritual space capable of permanent expansion due to its communicative nature. Multidimensional reading of ontological regularities on the pages of the trilogy allows shifting the vector of art from only creative actualization of the history of the autobiographical hero’s spiritual growth to his awareness as a communicative event that acquires the meaning of discourse. The communicative strategies of the work are covered in the context of the peculiarities of the memoir narrative with the principles of constructing the "I" inherent in this genre. The polyvalent saturation of the author's narrative intentions led to the combination of hermeneutic methodology with elements of structural-semantic analysis. The research moves from the statement of a certain factual material of the narrative plane in the pages of E. Canetti's autobiographical trilogy to the deep meaning of the story with the realization of the unique experience of aesthetic categorization of one's own life. ER -
