The concept of multilingualism in teaching foreign languages
AbstractThe aim of the article is to define the role and importance of a multilingual component at the modern stage of teaching foreign languages in the context of the processes of globalization and integration. The article deals with multilingualism, it is a phenomenon which has become an inevitable part of our modern life. Different definitions of the notion multilingualism have been analysed in the article. The difference between multilingualismand plurilingualism has been shown. The main principles of multilingual education (a foreign language is considered to be a means of teaching, and not only as a subject) have been touched upon, the role and place of a multilingual component at the present stage of teaching foreign languages within the processes of globalization and integration has beenshown, the differences between multilingual education and traditional forms of teaching foreign languages have been examined in the present article that proves multilingual education to be an important component of national educational systems of modern European countries.
