Abstract

The article is devoted to analysis of the sociolinguistic principles in the context of traditional approach to foreign languages teaching. A sociolingual aspect to FLT requires new teaching and learning materials that support transfer of linguistic knowledge, society? language and learning experience, language learning strategies, language comparisons etc. It reveals that the main result in foreign language teaching is learning of extra-language information. Social factors make conscious impact upon the language. They are in the complex interconnection with the language and they correlate with it to some extent. Besides, social factors are the basis for language functioning (origin, appearance, extinction). Language is considered to be a social phenomenon that cannot exist outside of linguistic consciousness. Linguistic persona as a bearer of this linguistic consciousness faces the fact that the society in this or that way affects the language itself as well as his/her ownmanner of speech. In this case we can speak of definite social groupings and issues that can influence learners` English speech. Social networks as a means of language immersion are considered to be a way of learning EFL. The article stresses that the means of forming sociolinguistic competence are textbooks, manuals, visual aids, audio and video materials as well as Mass media. Authentic means are the materials that contain sociocultural components of teaching, i. e. mentality, socil communication and national life. Sociolinguistic principles are important part in lerning English. They promote formation of the sociolinguistic competence, i. e. the system of knowlwdge about the realities, traditions, national customs of the country, whose language is studied, helps to express and impart their own thoughts to the interlocuter in a proper way. Thus, it helps the communication in such a way. Sociolinguistics issues of culture and its representatives needs to be formulated in such manner that the learners` consideration of foreign people, mentality and traditions will be not only positive but full of respect.
