PRAGMATIC ASPECTS OF POPULAR-SCIENCE TEXT

Abstract

The aim of the article is to study methods of the author’s influence on the reader in a popular-science article. It involves performing the following tasks: to define pragmatic meaning of the language sign and pragmatic aspects of the text as well as the role of the popular-science article in the publicistic style; to consider methods of the author’s influence in the article. Pragmatics deals with features and relations of a sign system with the help of inexpressible means of this system; here belongs, for example, stylistic features of the language which provide the best perception of utterances, characteristics of the admissibletext compression retaining its intelligibility, criteria of the structure optimality of the compressed text, individual «permissive» skills of the interpreters. Thus, pragmatics involves maximum consideration of the properties and abilities of the human intellect. The role of pragmatic meanings in the meaningful word structure remains vague. V. Komissarov has some doubts about appropriateness and necessity to differentiate this type of meanings. Nomatter whether pragmatic aspects are defined as a separate type of a language sign or regarded in the structure of other components of its plan of content, this part of informationof the sign plays an important role. It would be more difficult to deal with the pragmatic aspect of the utterance or the text, i.e. relations between oral speech and participants of communication. Taking into consideration these points, it could influence the choice of language means by the author and the degree of the influence of the utterance on the reader.Keywords: popular-science text, popular-science article, pragmatics of the text, publicistic style.
